The Story of Pastor Abimbola Samuel

My name is Pastor Abimbola Samuel. I am the president and founder of SAMUEL ABIMBOLA FOUNDATION, a non-governmental organization with the goal to enlighten, educate, train, and empower vulnerable women, widows, and single mothers in different skill acquisition programs to make them self-sufficient and self-reliant in Lagos, Oyo, and Ondo states in Nigeria.

I am from a family of seven, but I grew up with eleven other children. My passion for making people happy and smile has grown since I was 14, when my mother told us that taking care of others has its own rewards. It is a privilege and an honor to care for others. This is what led me to care for less-privileged women. This project started at my local church and has extended to both men and women from various communities, irrespective of religion, tribe, or background.

Today, according to the National Bureau of Statistics Index (NBS), over 133 million Nigerians are living in poverty. Widows and single mothers are the most represented groups. Our ambition is to empower vulnerable and less privileged women through vocational training and entrepreneurial development opportunities in Nigeria to be self-sufficient and independent.

I started with liquid soap-making training, hat and turban making, and providing emotional support and coaching for women together with Kanzul Light of Hope Foundation. My latest partnership is with one of the big banks in Nigeria to become a Master Agent and to distribute five hundred Point of Sale (POS) machines to both men and women in Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Osun, and Ondo States in the next 18 months.

Our short-term action plan is to ensure that more men and women get the POS machines and to train them to use the POS machines, create more jobs, and enhance their established businesses. We also plan to collaborate with individuals, philanthropists, local and international organizations, and other NGOs.

Our long-term plan is to create a Vocational Training program where we will deliver training on different skill acquisitions for interested women, irrespective of their educational or religious background. and issue certificates of completion to participants. We welcome sponsors to give grants to qualified women to make them self-reliant.
