Geoffrey Kistruck is the Director of the Social Innovation Research Lab, whose purpose is to bridge the gap between academia and the development community. He observed that academics are focused on publishing in top academic journals - which are overly abstract, and practitioners are focused on 'big picture' issues - which aren't granular enough for academics to study. SIRLab has developed a collaborative research model that allows for a 'win-win' scenario.
