Objective:
Our mission is to charge refugees’ mobile phones for free using renewable energy, connecting them to loved ones and empowering them through reliable access to information. We have designed and manufactured a “Solar Hub,” a portable metal frame which uses solar power to charge up to 12 phones per hour. We have already installed 6 units in refugee camps in Greece to huge support and demand for more.

We have created an offline platform on a Raspberry Pi device which will host educational materials, legal information, and translation apps developed in partnership with other social enterprises. Users will be able to connect wirelessly to access this information, which will be available in Arabic, Farsi, and English. In additional to implementing 6 more Solar Hubs, we hope to equip all 12 units with this new extension. Feedback mechanisms will be included so that users can determine what further materials they would like to see on this application.

Raising $1,000 (£800 GBP) will allow us to travel to Greece in mid-February 2017 to install 6 new Solar Hubs, implement the new Raspberry Pi devices, and conduct research to see our impact in the camps. Each Solar Hub benefits 3,600 refugees monthly, and your donation will have a huge impact on their daily lives. Thank you for your support!

Description
Imagine leaving behind all you have ever known, and being left with only one way to contact your family, transfer money, and access information. Suddenly what just seemed like a phone has become a lifeline.

Reliable, safe access to electricity to charge mobile phones is limited in refugee camps, and our “Solar Hub” is a sustainable response to this need that is already making a huge difference in the lives of people in the camps. Our Solar Hub charges 12 phones per hour, 10 hours per day. That’s 3,600 people per month that are able to connect with their loved ones and access information: with zero drain on community resources.

Our latest initiative will allow users to access offline information hosted on a Raspberry Pi extension: educational materials, legal information, and translation apps developed in partnership with other social enterprises will all be freely available. Users will be able to connect wirelessly to access this information, which will be available in Arabic, Farsi, and English.

In just one year, we have participated in the Clinton Global Initiative University in California, received the PremaGyan Good 100 Reward at the GoodFestival in Lausanne, Switzerland, and our work has been featured on Reuters, Mashable, Business Insider, Huffington Post, and more.

Our Solar Hubs are installed in 6 locations in Greece, from Athens to Thessaloniki to Lesvos. We have gotten great feedback from users and there is huge demand for more! We will be travelling to Greece in mid-February 2017 to install 6 new Solar Hubs, implement Raspberry Pi devices on all 12, and conduct research to measure our impact in the camps. Funds raised will go directly to making this trip possible.

We are so excited to continue making a positive impact in Greece, and we are so lucky to have you on this journey with us. Thank you for your support!
