The Story of Raimi Olaide Basirat

Raimi Olaide Basirat is the founder of Plastic Entrepreneurship Ventures (PEV), a social enterprise committed to reinventing, recreating, and reengineering plastic waste in Nigeria. Her mission is to educate the next generation by sharing the social and economic opportunities of using plastic waste as a resource material.

During her childhood, there was flooding whenever it was raining in Oshodi, Nigeria causing blocked drainage systems in the city. Clogged by different types of materials, including a large quantity of plastic waste. As a result, the communities were affected, and some schoolchildren lost their lives. At a younger age, Raimi Olaide decided that she would become a social entrepreneur and find solutions to plastic pollution in her community.

Her first project was held in collaboration with the Oshodi / Isolo Local Government in Nigeria. The focus of the program was on climate change. Online seminars were delivered as a way of educating and increasing awareness about the opportunities of plastic waste for the environment and the community.

As an entrepreneur, Raimi Olaide Basirat believes that perseverance and enthusiasm are key when confronted with failure. She has created a structured program made up of six reinvention models for the use of plastic waste that will empower communities and organizations to turn plastic waste into plastic wealth. Her current focus is to build an academy that will explore all aspects of the use of plastic waste, giving people the opportunity to recycle the material and create value. The academy will provide in-person training virtual workshops, and seminars to engage the community and develop socioeconomic opportunities from recycling plastic waste.

Raimi Olaide Basirat is a Gold Medalist from Roxbourg Institute of Social Entrepreneurship (RISE), Switzerland where she graduated with a Humanitarian MBA and is currently pursuing her Professional Doctorate of Business Administration (DBA).

You can support the Plastic Entrepreneurship Venture through sponsorship for the setup of the recycling hub, which will serve as an academy that will provide education, awareness, and training programs on waste management.
